Humor has a positive effect on social media, as it is used for entertainment. Many social media posts revolve around memes, which are videos or pictures that are used to make people laugh. This is best done through laughter, as laughter releases endorphins, which relaxes the body, relieves stress, and makes people have good emotions. When people connect good feelings with a certain brand, it is great news for that company. 

            Another reason humor positively affects social media is that it creates unity. Laughter is something that transcends all languages and cultures; it is relatable and every human can understand it. When someone with a large following posts humorous content on social media, all of his or her followers can be united through that one post. Humor on social media has helped propel people to fame, as some social media users that exclusively post humorous content have gone viral. 

            In a study done by Madden Mary, it was found that 58% of teens that use social media share inside jokes with their friends. This is important for two reasons. One, it shows that humor has a huge role in the content that is placed on social media. Secondly, it shows that when teens are sharing humorous content, the majority of it is being used in a positive way. Inside jokes are supposed to represent close friendships that people have with each other. Inside jokes are not used in a negative way. Without humor, social media would have a massive void in its content. Social media platforms would not be the same, and it would lose a lot of popularity amongst all types of people, regardless of age or anything else.
